Dr. Griffiths was my mother's consultant as she was facing a hip replacement. Her case was not a simple one given that she had a series of heart related conditions that had seen her spending 5 nights in a cardiac ward only 6 weeks before her scheduled operation.
My mother, on her own admission, is a very anxious person relating to any medical intervention, and previously, even having her blood pressure taken was a far from comfortable event.
From the moment Dr. Griffiths walked into the Pre Op assessment consultation his somewhat unique ability to instantly engage and place the patient at ease was evident. He was able to clearly explain the challenging and reasonably high risk circumstances, given my mother’s cardiac conditions, in a way that was easy to understand whilst being very clear and open at the same time.
He explained that he would develop and deliver a suitable and bespoke plan might mothers peri-operative journey as well as clearly stating that the required surgical governance and overall hospital risk mitigation would be applied. My mother was delighted with his pre op approach and whilst nervous, even stated to us privately that "she couldn't be in better hands".
I personally will not forget the look of jubilation on my mothers face after the operation when it was clear that the carefully coordinated approach had been a total success.
I was equally impressed with how Dr. Griffiths continued his outwardly dedicated focus on the patient with not one but a number of postoperative visits and check ins whilst she was in the hospital.
It is clear that Dr. Griffiths is not only an exceptionally talented professional but is able to build very strong rapport with his patients as well as installing total confidence in them ahead of, or just prior to, and indeed after the surgery.
Thankfully, my mother has not needed any surgery for a decade but as she enters her early 80's this may change of course. The experience she received under the care of Dr. Griffiths has resulted in a significant reduction in her anxiety associated with any medical intervention.
As a family, we couldn't thank him enough and I would have no hesitation of recommending him to anyone who may have slightly higher and more complex needs when it comes to managing risk associated with surgery.

In a year of countless operations Dr John Griffiths acted as my anaesthetist at the wonderful Manor Hospital Oxford. The time and commitment he gave me both prior and post operation was second to none. He showed a genuine and authentic interest in addressing any concerns and fears. His manner was so friendly and cheerful dare I say I almost enjoyed my pre operative process. Thanks John to you and your team for making a difficult time bearable with your wonderful personable care !!!

Had a few operations in my time and for myself with anaesthetists it comes down to how I come out of being put under. In a word - and without exaggeration - sublime. No sickness, no pain, if anything a feeling of wellbeing and contentment. The operation was actually enjoyable. Pre going under I was put completely at ease, felt no discomfort, the atmospherewas good. So deservedly five stars

I have nothing but huge thanks to give to John Griffiths for helping and understanding our needs, and for his calming effect and confidence boosting manner. This is the third time he has been there for us. Just Brilliant.

“I met Dr. Griffiths for the first time at the Churchill hospital for my exercise test and anaesthetic assessment knowing that I was soon about to undergo an 11 hour operation.
He explained the purpose of our meeting in a way that immediately put my mind at rest. I met Dr. Griffiths again on the day of surgery - one of the most fearful moments of my life - but he again put my mind at rest.
Since then I have had two more follow-up operations under the care of Dr. Griffiths. Before each operation, Dr. Griffiths always put some music on in the pre-op room which made me feel relaxed.
He is a caring and warm-hearted doctor who takes time out of his busy schedule to talk to me and check on my progress after each operation.
Dr. Griffiths is an excellent doctor and I could not ask for more from my doctor. I am always very grateful to Dr. Griffiths for his outstanding care of me before, during and after all of my operations.”

"During 2017 my son had a near fatal flying accident.
After 9 hours of surgery, he was transferred to the ICU unit at the John Radcliffe where he took a turn for the worse. Dr John Griffiths was the Intensive Care Consultant in charge and remained a key part of the team monitoring Connor’s progress from this devastating accident.
During this extremely difficult time Dr John Griffiths approach was second to none, his kindness, warmth, and repeated words of reassurance gave me light and hope in a situation when I knew there was little hope to be had. Thankfully down to the outstanding care my son received he survived. As the photos show not only survived but is back to his unique best.
Nearly six years later, I have recently had the pleasure of crossing paths again with Dr Griffiths in a professional capacity. It has pleased me greatly to see him again and to be able to personally thank him for his professionalism, empathy and support at that life changing moment. It is also clear from speaking with other patients that he has recently looked after, that his professionalism, warmth, and kindness remain the same."
